Get rid of that pesky limescale in your luxury bathroom

Limescale, or calcium carbonate, forms when hard water evaporates and calcium and magnesium combine. Limescale can appear anywhere near a water area in your home. From taps and baths to toilet bowls and pipes, this chalky substance builds up over time and, if left too long, can be a real pain to try and remove effectively from your luxury bathroom.

Around 60% of the UK is considered to be in a hard water area caused by the minerals our water picks up along its underground journey. Hard water is often found in areas of the biggest populations, but even those living in Scotland, Devon or Cornwall and other soft water areas are still likely to experience limescale buildup over time – it may just take longer.

Taps are one of the trickier bathroom fixtures to clean. Lemon juice or vinegar will drip off when sprayed, not allowing the acid enough time to work on the scale. You’ll often notice white deposits on the spout, so targeting this area is a good idea. Follow these simple steps to get rid of limescale on taps:

1) Boil a kettle full of water and pour it into a bowl. Add the same amount of lemon juice or vinegar.
2) Place a cloth over the tap and secure it with an elastic band.
3) Leave for at least 30 minutes, then remove the cloth and rinse with clean water.

Getting rid of limescale from your tiles and plugholes is a little more straightforward than taps. Using vinegar or lemon juice, you can apply it directly to the limescale area and scrub until the limescale starts to come off. Alternatively, you can mix lemon juice and vinegar with water and spray over the affected area. Leave for up to an hour for those stubborn areas that need a bit more care!

Transforming your luxury bathroom with a freestanding bath

Luxury bathrooms are places of relaxation, although, in recent years, the bathroom has become a space for getting ready for the day or for making your final touches before heading out for a night in the town. Bathrooms are now a place for home spa treatments as well as for washing and grooming. Having a bath or shower is a luxurious part of everyday life, and with the rise of the freestanding bath, it’s easy to make the most of this luxury.

The freestanding bath is one of the most popular choices when it comes to luxury bathroom furniture. A freestanding bath can be placed in any part of a bathroom as long as it has access to plumbing and ample space. A freestanding bath is ideal for those who love to relax in their bathroom and enjoy the look of luxury in their home. Thanks to the rise of the freestanding bath, it’s never been easier to make the most of a relaxing bathroom break.

Things to consider before purchasing a freestanding bath

The space you have – Unfortunately, freestanding baths are not made for every bathroom. Unless you have a large bathroom with plenty of space to place a bath with no fuss, the chances are a freestanding bath is not the right choice for you.

The size of your bathtub – Linked with the space you have is the size of the freestanding bath you have chosen. If you are limited on space, you may wish to consider a smaller tub that may fit in your bathroom, but that means you have to compromise on how much space you have in the bath.

Choosing the material – Depending on the design of your luxury bathroom, you may wish to consider the type of material your bathtub will be made from. Will you go for a more contemporary design in acrylic, or are you set on having a cast iron or steel bath? The material you choose will affect the weight of your bath.

The weight of your bath – As we have just mentioned, the weight of your bath will be affected by the material you choose to use. You need to ensure that no matter what the weight of your bath is, your floor can handle the pressure. Don’t forget to find out the weight of your bath when it’s full of water as well!

Choosing your perfect luxury bathroom lighting

Bathroom lighting can often make or break your luxury bathroom design. Too bright, and you will feel like you are on trial. Too low, and you won’t be able to see to have a shower or do your makeup. Getting your bathroom lighting right is more challenging than you may initially think, but one vitally important thing for anyone to know is that electricity and water don’t mix; that’s why buying bathroom lighting isn’t the most straightforward of experiences. The bathroom is covered by in-depth safety regulations when it comes to electricity, so you’ll need to hire a qualified and experienced bathroom installation team to carry out the job.

Bathroom lighting has always been viewed as functional, with a general lack of design choices. That is until now… While you can still find simple designs, like flush-fitting bathroom ceiling lights, you are now faced with a greater choice than ever before. Choose between elaborate designs that match your luxury bathroom decor, like decorative bathroom chandeliers or more contemporary fixtures.

Before choosing your bathroom lighting, you may wish to consider energy-efficient options to help save money on your rising energy bills. Most modern lights are now built with LED lighting compatibility, but to save extra energy, we recommend turning off your lights as soon as you leave the bathroom to reduce your energy consumption.
